Goldfinch, September 7, 2016

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, June 11, 2016
The American Goldfinch, Carduelis tristis, is a well-known bird all across the United States. Sometimes called "Wild Canary" they are seed-eaters and readily come to backyard feeders. Both these birds are males; the females are a duller yellow.

Have a wonderful day!

  2. Very nice. Quite different from the European Goldfinch that we get here - In Tasmania not Europe :-)

  3. When you described them as the wild canary,I remember my neighbor walking down to tell me he had a canary at his window & if he could catch it,do you want it? I showed him a picture of the goldfinch & was able to educate him some on them.Great shots! I`ll have to buy some thistle seed as I didn`t plant sunflowers this year, thanks for sharing!have a great day!phyllis

  4. There is always controversy on my blog. Which is the better looking goldfinch? American Goldfinch or European Goldfinch. They're both beautiful aren't they?

  5. I like goldfinches! I don't feed them in summer for rear of attracting bears.

  6. Love goldfinches -- they're already molting to make way for drab winter feathers.
